Our History

The Carmel-by-the-Sea Police Department was established in 1916 and since 1961, with great pride and honor, the men and women of the Carmel-by-the-Sea Police Department have been represented by the Carmel-by-the-Sea Police Officers Association (CPOA). Proudly serving the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the CPOA represents the rank and file of the police department (Community Services Officers (CSOs), Police Services Officers (PSOs), Police Officers, Police Corporals, and Police Sergeants).

Over the course of the last 99 years, the brave men and women of the Carmel police force have tirelessly protected the constitutional rights, safety, property, and welfare of Carmel's residents and business’ alike.

The CPOA is proud to professionally represent the members of the Carmel-by-the Sea Police Department. The CPOA ensures our members receive the support they needs to continue to provide the highest level of service to all members of the community. Our funds pay for legal representation for our officers, services honoring the memory of officers injured or killed in the line of duty, promoting fellowship, team building and leadership among members, and the support of community based charities. All of the Association funds are generated through membership contributions and donations from our supporters. Officers can confidently complete their duties knowing they have full support from the CPOA and community members who support them.

The CPOA is also committed to providing charitable contributions to those in our community who need our help the most. Whether through providing monetary donations to outreach programs or simply volunteering our free time, the CPOA is dedicated to improving our community, YOUR COMMUNITY!

Thank you for your support and contributions!
